About my Dream

Hi, I'm Wendy, the creator of the Mediwonderland Book Series. It has long been my dream to write these books, not to profit but to benefit children and parents across the globe who are facing medical procedures and circumstances that can be very frightening.

Inspiration for this came from my experience 14 years ago, taking care of my daughter who spent a year in hospital and underwent major surgery at age 8. She had to go through a lot of invasive procedures such as a bone marrow biopsy and a splenectomy. I couldn't find anything as a mother to support her through stories using child-friendly language. As she herself says in the short video 'Katie's Story', it would have made the entire experience so much easier.

It is only because of my own life threatening illness that I have been able to make this series a reality. (See 'Twist in the Tale' below).

Aim of the S

This series aims to make medical procedures less frightening for children all around the world. It will address everything from simple medical procedures to illnesses, and also situations such as bullying, abuse and psychological issues such as PTSD. Children see things very differently than adults and the simplest of tests can be very frightening.

A Twist in the Tale

In 2012, I was diagnosed with a rare but invisible illness that affects my mobility which is why I use digital means to reach out to children. Because of this, I can now find the time to realise my dream. I see my illness as a gift. I am also honored to be a Patient Leader (see below).

I am a patient advocate and health leader and a top 5 finalist in the 2017 Best in Show: YouTube WEGO Health Award category. It means so much to me because as a Patient Leader, I raise awareness, improve healthcare and bring a message of hope. My message is that suffering can be a gift, allowing dreams to come true and impact the lives of millions.
